It is the generic name for Brineura&reg; (cerliponase alfa), which is approved to slow loss of ability to walk or crawl (ambulation) in symptomatic pediatric patients 3 years of age and older with lateinfantile CLN2 disease.&amp;lt;br\/&amp;gt;&amp;lt;!-- \/wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;&lt;\/div&gt;\"  data-mobile-support=\"0\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]' tabindex='0' role='link'>cerliponase alfa<\/span>) is a prescription medication used to slow loss of ability to walk or crawl (ambulation) in pediatric patients with neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis type 2 (CLN2), also known as tripeptidyl peptidase 1 (TPP1) deficiency.<sup>1<\/sup><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;CLN2 disease&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;!-- wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;A rare autosomal recessive disorder where lysosomes in the brain don&rsquo;t have enough of the TPP1 enzyme to break down materials in cells.&amp;lt;br\/&amp;gt;&amp;lt;!-- \/wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;&lt;\/div&gt;\"  data-mobile-support=\"0\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]' tabindex='0' role='link'>CLN2 disease<\/span> is a type of lysosomal storage disorder that affects cells in the brain. Lysosomes are in every cell and contain enzymes that break down materials in the cell. This is how Brineura is delivered in children with CLN2 disease.&amp;lt;br\/&amp;gt;&amp;lt;!-- \/wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;&lt;\/div&gt;\"  data-mobile-support=\"0\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]' tabindex='0' role='link'>intraventricular infusion<\/span><\/span>&#x2014;a method that allows Brineura to be directly delivered into the fluid surrounding the brain, known as the&#xA0;<span class=\"copy-accent-highlight tooltips tooltipstered\">cerebrospinal fluid<\/span>.<sup>1<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>Before starting Brineura, your child will need to have an&#xA0;<span class=\"copy-accent-highlight tooltips tooltipstered\"><span class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;Intraventricular access device&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;!-- wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;A device that is surgically implanted below the scalp and allows Brineura to be delivered through intraventricular infusion.&amp;lt;br\/&amp;gt;&amp;lt;!-- \/wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;&lt;\/div&gt;\"  data-mobile-support=\"0\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]' tabindex='0' role='link'>intraventricular access device<\/span><\/span>&#xA0;surgically implanted just below their scalp. This is an established procedure in pediatric neurology, and allows direct delivery of Brineura into a&#xA0;<span class=\"copy-accent-highlight tooltips tooltipstered\"><span class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;Ventricle&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;!-- wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;A hollow cavity in the brain that contains CSF.&amp;lt;br\/&amp;gt;&amp;lt;!-- \/wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;&lt;\/div&gt;\"  data-mobile-support=\"0\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]' tabindex='0' role='link'>ventricle<\/span><\/span>&#xA0;in the brain. The access device is about the size of a penny.
